Course Description / 講義の概要
The English Communication Lab is an active, student-centered seminar for students who want to use English as a tool for communication, exploration, and creative work. English will be the primary working language of the seminar. Students will participate in discussions, give presentations, collaborate with classmates, and develop individual or group projects based on topics that interest them. Rather than following a single fixed theme, students will be encouraged to bring their own interests, questions, and ideas into the seminar and help shape its direction. The goal is not simply to study English, but to use English confidently and meaningfully: to express ideas, ask questions, explain opinions, respond to others, and create something worth sharing.
English Communication Labは、英語を「学ぶ」だけではなく、実際に「使う」ことを重視した、学生主体型のアクティブなゼミです。ゼミでは英語を主な使用言語とします。 学生は、ディスカッション、プレゼンテーション、グループ活動などを行い、自分自身の興味や関心に基づいて、個人またはグループでプロジェクトに取り組みます。特定の一つのテーマだけを扱うのではなく、学生自身が興味のあるテーマや疑問、アイデアを持ち寄り、ゼミの活動にも主体的に関わっていきます。 本ゼミの目的は、単に英語の知識を増やすことではありません。自分の考えを伝える、質問する、意見を説明する、他者の考えに応答する、そして英語を使って何かを創り出す力と自信を身につけることを目指します。
Aspiration / ゼミの「志」
This seminar aims to create a space in which students take ownership of their learning and become confident, independent communicators.
Students are encouraged to be curious, express their own ideas, listen carefully to others, and take an active role in shaping discussions and projects. Through repeated use of English in meaningful situations, students will develop greater fluency, confidence, critical thinking, and presentation skills.本ゼミでは、学生一人ひとりが自分自身の学びに責任を持ち、自信を持って主体的にコミュニケーションできるようになることを目指します。
学生には、自分の興味や疑問を大切にし、自分の意見を積極的に表現するとともに、他者の考えにも耳を傾け、ディスカッションやプロジェクトの形成に主体的に関わることを期待します。実際のコミュニケーションの中で繰り返し英語を使用することで、英語運用力、自信、批判的思考力、プレゼンテーション能力を高めていきます。Prerequisite / 事前履修科目等
Students should already have sufficient English ability to participate in discussions and communicate their ideas. A TOEIC score of approximately 550 or above is recommended as a general guideline.
However, TOEIC scores alone will not determine suitability for the seminar. Motivation, willingness to speak English, active participation, and the ability to work collaboratively are equally important.英語でのディスカッションや、自分の考えをある程度伝えることができる英語力を持っていることが望まれます。TOEICスコア550点程度以上を一つの目安とします。
ただし、TOEICスコアのみで履修の適性を判断するものではありません。英語を積極的に使おうとする姿勢、授業への参加意欲、他の学生と協力して活動する姿勢も重視します。Additional Information/留意事項
This is not a basic English class. Students should come prepared to speak, participate, ask questions, share ideas, and contribute actively.
The seminar is intentionally student-led. The instructor will provide guidance, feedback, and support, but students are expected to take an active role in deciding what they want to explore and what they want to create.
Discussion topics and projects may vary from year to year depending on the interests of the students.本ゼミは、基礎英語を学ぶための授業ではありません。英語を実際に使用し、積極的に発言し、質問し、自分の考えを共有する姿勢が求められます。
また、学生主体の活動を重視します。教員は必要な指導、フィードバック、サポートを行いますが、学生自身も「何について考えたいのか」「何をしてみたいのか」「何を創りたいのか」を考え、ゼミの活動に積極的に関わることが期待されます。
扱うテーマやプロジェクトの内容は、その年度の学生の興味や関心によって変化する場合があります。 -
