International. Interdisciplinary. Practical Wisdom.

Graduates of Tama University School of Global Studies earn a Bachelor of Art (B.A.) degree in global studies. Within this field of study, students specialize in one of two academic tracks: hospitality management or international studies.

Language education and introductory courses

In their first academic year, students gain a broad liberal arts background in a variety of cultural studies courses and humanities courses while honing their communication skills as a global lingua franca. International students and returnees who enter SGS with high English proficiency may choose to further their Japanese language skill development in our Japanese language courses while taking foundational courses on topics in culture and humanities, including Japanese Studies, taught in Japanese or English.

From their second year of study, students declare their academic track from one of two specializations: hospitality management or international studies.

Hospitality Management

Recent years have seen greater international movement of people and commodities for both business and leisure. Travel and tourism continue to expand beyond national borders, resulting in a growing demand for qualified individuals who can thrive in a multicultural, multilingual environment. The hospitality management track prepares students to achieve their potential in a career in the ever-changing hospitality and tourism industry as a tour conductor, member of hotel or restaurant staff, or other professional in a related capacity. Students can learn the hospitality of the high quality of Japan.

International Studies

While history has seen some areas of the world prosper, affluence has brought with it such problems as war and internal conflict, international crime, refugees, increased climate change, and a drain on natural resources. Qualified individuals with a global perspective and multicultural understanding are needed to work towards the goal of international cooperation. Undergraduates can learn international economy, the business of Japan and so on. Graduates with this specialization will be prepared for work in international development assistance or further research at universities and research organizations both in Japan and overseas.
