Study Abroad

Study abroad. Discover the world.

Tama University School of Global Studies (SGS) encourages all students to study or intern overseas at least once during their studies at SGS. Programs offered to SGS students range from long-term exchange (exchange and non-exchange) to short-term study, to internships abroad.

Long-term Exchange

Long-term exchange partners allow SGS students to enroll in general academic courses at their institutions as exchange students. Exchange means that tuition for the Partner University abroad is waived based on agreements held between Tama SGS and the Partner University. See a list of current Exchange Partners here. Long-term exchange programs are primarily reserved for 3rd and 4th year students.

Short-term programs

SGS also offers a wide variety of short-term 2-5 week programs which allow students earn credits during the summer or winter breaks. We offer not only intensive language study programs but also a variety of international studies courses when available. Credit is awarded for all types upon successful completion.
Students may participate in short-term study programs in any year of study.

Internships

SGS offers students both domestic and overseas internships. First- and second-year students can enroll in the Domestic Internship course and gain work experience in a Japanese work environment. Students in their third year can enroll in the Internship Abroad course and receive credit upon successful completion of aninternship over the summer holiday. Students are responsible for finding their own internships but may receive assistance from staff and faculty.

Scholarships

Tama offers competitive scholarships for students who wish to study or intern abroad. Students should apply for the scholarship at the time of application. Short-term and Internship Scholarships are generally ¥50,000-¥100,000, and students are eligible to receive these once per academic year. Long-term scholarships range from ¥200,000-¥600,000 and eligibility is limited to once in a student’s academic career.
