Welcome to SGS
Message from the Dean
Tama University is what we call “gendai no shijuku.” Based upon the high aspiration of responding to the expectations of those around us, being of some help to others, and wanting to display our own powers with no regrets whatsoever, this is a family-like “tutoring school” environment with a small student body. We want you to learn by mutually helping each other and cultivating character through studying hard. School of Global Studies (SGS) aspires towards turning out people of character who can work on the global stage and solve global problems. Recently, just as we have seen in the fight against the spread of infectious disease, global environmental problems and the financial crisis, something which occurs in one country or region can, within an instant, become a problem on a global scale. It is necessary for efforts to transgress borders or countries in order to find a solution. Moreover, Japanese culture, such as animation and manga, is spreading throughout the world, and increasing numbers of people are moving beyond borders for travel and sightseeing. The hospitality industry which supports this is also developing. Many of these things like this are becoming global issues and the response, development and the solution to these issues affect everyone's future. In order to become someone who can know the essence of these global problems and solve these issues, communication ability is indispensable. Improve your English ability in order to understand others and to inform them of your own ideas and thoughts. I want you to become people who have global perspectives, interact with the world, and always challenge things. SGS values the talents of each individual student and cultivates people who have not just knowledge which is understood globally, but also great problem solving skills.
