The Application Process
1. Consult the study abroad official at your school.
2. Download the application materials (See the links below).
3. Complete your application packet digitally, saving all documents as .docx, unless otherwise noted.
4. Submit your application to the study abroad official at your school, who will submit it via email. Please be sure to observe the following deadlines:

Please note: The above deadlines have been set to ensure sufficient time to process your application and apply for requisite documents king into consideration the time required to process your application internally and apply for documents requisite for your student visa application with the immigration authorities in Japan. Please contact your study abroad official with concerns or questions.
1. Student Nomination
Tama University School of Global Studies is pleased to welcome students from our overseas affiliates on student exchange for 1-2 academic semesters. Prospective exchange students are first nominated by their home institution using the Nomination Form (Form IS-01) below. Students then download and complete Forms IS-02 through IS-08. All forms are .docx files and can be completed on the computer. Please save all documents as .docx, unless otherwise noted, and submit them with the supplementary documents listed below.

- Certificate of Eligibility Inquiry Form - Form IS-04
- Japanese Language Proficiency Questionnaire - Form IS-05
- Course Pre-Registration Form - Form IS-06
- Immunization and Infectious Disease History - Form IS-07
- Inbound International Student Health Survey - Form IS-08
- Most recent student transcripts (PDF or copy)
- Scanned copy of student passport (Color, PDF)
- Passport-style photo in JPEG format (Must follow passport photo regulations.)
- Study Abroad Plan (1 page [A4 or 8.5” by 11”] in length, submitted in Word):
a. autobiographical information (name, year in school, academic major, etc.);
b. explanation of why the applicant seeks to study abroad at Tama SGS in Japan; and
c. a proposal of what the applicant intends to study and experience in Japan.
3. Submission

4. Review Process
Applications for student exchange undergo review by the International Affairs Committee and presentation to the faculty. Accepted applicants are then notified with a formal letter of acceptance and provided with a Certificate of Eligibility (在留資格認定証明書) issued by the immigration authority in Japan. These documents are sent to the home institution of the candidate. Both are necessary for student visa application at the regional immigration authority under the jurisdiction of the Japanese Ministry of Justice (i.e., the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your country or area). They must also be presented upon arrival in Japan.
